TURRINI: FERRARI ENGINEERS NOT YET IMPRESSED WITH 2020 F1 CAR

A Ferrari insider has revealed that all may not be well with the Maranello team’s preparations for the 2020 Formula 1 World Championship season.

Leo Turrini, a long-time F1 journalist with key sources at Ferrari, wrote on his Quotidiano blog that he has heard alarming news from within the fabled team, “It seems to me that, so far, the indications from the simulator and the wind tunnel have not impressed the engineers but keep in mind that there is still time.”

Turrini also commented on the future of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, given that he is out of contract this year and Charles Leclerc has just signed through 2024.

“I’m not so sure that 2020 will be Vettel’s last year in red,” he said. “All the more so after Verstappen extended at Red Bull.”

He thinks quadruple world champion Vettel has the ability to bounce back, “Vettel is not the least bit affected by the hostility of the Italian media, for the simple reason that he does not read much of it.”

Lewis Hamilton is reportedly in the ‘advanced stages’ of signing a two-year contract extension with Mercedes, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

“In the meantime, Lewis Hamilton is in discussion with Mercedes over the renewal of his contract,” wrote Perna.

“The negotiation, which will see Hamilton extend his stay until the end of 2022, is at an advanced stage and is worth in the region of 45m Euros a year with bonuses.”

Ο επικεφαλής της Ferrari, Mattia Binotto, προειδοποίησε ότι θα πάρει “λίγα χρόνια” για να αντικαταστήσουν τη Mercedes ως την νούμερο 1 ομάδα στην Formula 1.

“Για να ανοίξουμε έναν κερδοφόρο κύκλο και να είμαστε μπροστά από τη Mercedes με σταθερό τρόπο, θα μας πάρει ακόμα μερικά χρόνια”, αναφέρει ο Binotto στην Ιταλική έκδοση του Motorsport.com.

Ορισμένες φήμες περιστρέφονται γύρω από τη Ferrari κατά τη διάρκεια του χειμερινού διαλείμματος.

Η πρώτη είναι ότι οι μηχανικοί της Ferrari δεν εντυπωσιάστηκαν με τους αρχικούς αριθμούς που έρχονται από τις δοκιμές που πραγματοποιήθηκαν στο μονοθέσιο τους για το 2020.

Η δεύτερη φήμη είναι ότι ο νέος προσομοιωτής της Ferrari δεν θα είναι έτοιμος για χρήση μέχρι την άνοιξη και θα αναγκαστεί να συνεχίσει να χρησιμοποιεί το τρέχον μοντέλο, με παρατσούκλι “The Spider”, που λειτουργεί εδώ και πάνω από μία δεκαετία.

Πάντως ο Turini δεν έχει ιστορικό λανθασμένων πληροφοριών και δηλώσεων, είναι προσεκτικός και δεν έχει πει τίποτα εντελώς άκυρο ποτέ. Ακόμα και τώρα δεν προδιέγραψε την φετινή πορεία ως αποτυχημένη καθώς όπως λέει υπάρχει χρόνος. Ίσως απλώς να μετέφερε τις πρώτες εντυπώσεις αυτή τη στιγμή, χωρίς να σημαίνει κάτι για το μονοθέσιο που τελικά θα τρέξει.
Προσωπική μου εκτίμηση είναι πως ούτε φέτος θα αλλάξει τίποτα, ειδικά εφόσον το 21 αλλάζουν πολλά και εκεί θα παιχτεί το restart με πιο ίσους όρους. Τη red bull (και τη honda) περιμένω να δω πόση βελτίωση θα έχει και αν θα μπορέσει να γίνει αυτή το #2

Βλέπω στις 5-7/6 έχει Αζερμπαϊτζάν και μια εβδομάδα μετά πάνε Καναδά!
Απορώ πως θα προλάβουν να κάνουν το ταξίδι μέχρι εκεί μέσα σε 2-3 ημέρες.

Last week, reports already came out of Italy that Ferrari were not happy at all with their new challenger's data from the simulator and the wind tunnel, and Auto Bild have now reported the data is even worse than initially thought in Maranello.

Sources say 2020 Ferrari has 'serious' aero flaw

More rumblings about trouble with Ferrari's 2020 car are emerging.

Correspondents Ralf Bach and Bianca Garloff report: "The car could have a serious error in the aerodynamics, which neither the simulator specialists nor the wind tunnel engineers have been able to solve."

They claim that the problem could be that Ferrari has gone the Red Bull route with a very steep rake angle at the bottom of the car.

"It helps you in several areas," explained former F1 designer Gary Anderson. "But if just one little thing is wrong, there is a chain reaction from the front wing.

"Then you have a serious problem that is not easy to solve."

Another problem is that Ferrari appears to have lost the battle with rival teams and the FIA over the disputed legality of its 2019 engine.
