PANICKING pet owners are reportedly throwing cats and dogs out of towerblocks following bogus claims deadly coronavirus can be passed on by animals.
Chilling pictures coming out of crisis-hit China are said to show the bloodied corpses of animals lying in the road after being hurled to their death.
One dog was found dead after allegedly being thrown from one block of flats in Tianjin City in Hebei Province - home to the outbreak epicentre Wuhan.
Five cats were also thrown to death in Shanghai, with locals apparently saying they were pets as they had smooth and clean fur, say unconfirmed reports.
Local media stated the pooch was thrown from the upper floors of a tower block at 4am and smashed into the sunroof of a car before ending up on the ground.

A novel coronavirus (2019-nCov) was identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China in December of 2019. This new coronavirus has resulted in thousands of cases of lethal disease in China, with additional patients being identified in a rapidly growing number internationally. 2019-nCov was reported to share the same receptor, Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), with SARS-Cov. Here based on the public database and the state-of-the-art single-cell RNA-Seq technique, we analyzed the ACE2 RNA expression profile in the normal human lungs. The result indicates that the ACE2 virus receptor expression is concentrated in a small population of type II alveolar cells (AT2). Surprisingly, we found that this population of ACE2-expressing AT2 also highly expressed many other genes that positively regulating viral reproduction and transmission. A comparison between eight individual samples demonstrated that the Asian male one has an extremely large number of ACE2-expressing cells in the lung.

Huge variance across populations, with East Asians usually at the top (meaning highest risk infection), and Europeans usually at the bottom (meaning lowest risk infection).

According to animal welfare organisation Humane Society International similar demands have appeared across China in Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, Heilongjiang, Hebei, Wuhan, Shanxi and Shanghai.
The charity’s China Policy Specialist, Dr Peter J. Li, said the organisation had noticed memos issued by Chinese local authorities ordering the banning and even killing of dogs and stray cats.
He said: “This is not the right approach for local authorities in China to deal with the national crisis that can be traced to China’s out-of-control wildlife trade.
“Companion animals did not contribute to the outbreak of SARS in 2002-2003. They do not have anything to do with the Wuhan epidemic.”
At the ground zero of the virus outbreak in Wuhan, one neighbourhood banned residents from letting their cats, dogs or livestock from leaving their homes.
A flyer posted in the community warned residents if local officials saw any animals then they would catch, kill and bury them on the spot.
One residential complex in Shanghai has forbidden its residents from feeding stray animals to “enforce the control and prevention of the epidemic”.
Pet markets in Anshan, Liaoning Province, were instructed to stop trading temporarily.

Reports also state five cats were thrown to their deaths in the city of Shanghai, with locals believing they were pets as they had smooth and clean fur. Their owner has not been identified.
The incidents come after Dr Li Lanjuan said in an interview on China Central Television: "If pets come into contact with suspected patients, they should be quarantined."
However, a local media outlet named Zhibo China reportedly tweaked her words into "cats and dogs can spread the coronavirus".
The rumour spread quickly shortly after Zhibo China posted it on social media platform Weibo.

They then found the dog lying dead on the ground with its blood staining the bricks.
The owner of the dog has not been identified, while the vehicle owner is waiting for the police to name them so they receive compensation for the damage done to the car.
China Global Television Network's official Weibo account has tried try to put an end to the rumour.
"There is no evidence showing that pets such as cats and dogs can contract the novel coronavirus, the World Health Organisation said on Wednesday in one of its responses to people's concerns over the recent virus outbreak. The organisation suggested washing hands with soap and water to prevent other germs from transmitting between humans and animals," it posted.
"We hope the police can find the cold-blooded guardians of those poor animals as soon as possible," PETA Asia press officer for China, Keith Guo, told Asia Wire.
"In fact, it's the filthy factory farms, slaughterhouses, and meat markets that threaten the health of every human being on the planet by providing a breeding ground for deadly diseases like coronavirus, SARS, bird flu, and more."
