    Hi guys

First of all my sincere apologies for writing English... I am not from around here (i.e. I'm Belgian), moved to Athens a while ago with Greek wife and child, and still in the process of learning the language.. It's slowly coming, though : cool:

Anyways, a question on which I am hoping one of you can provide an answer:

So i recently switched over from Cosmote to Wind for my subscription Fibre internet + fixed telephony. All installed now, with Wind's default modem/router, the Technicolor tg789vac v2. However, I am looking to use my own modem/router (TP Link Archer VR400, AC1200 Wireless VDSL/ADSL) instead of their default Technicolor router. Does anyone have any experience with doing this?

From what I've understood, simply swapping them doesn't do the trick because the fixed line is VoIP and runs through the Technicolor device. My current understanding is that there are 2 potential solutions, but for both of these I am looking for additional info:

1st solution: Put the Technicolor in Bridge Mode, so it only acts as a modem and then I'd connect the TP Link Archer router with an Ethernet cable. However, I cannot find the option for bridge mode anywhere on the technicolor admin page. Moreover, I am wondering whether putting the Technicolor in bridge mode would also deactivate the VoIP line (this was eg the case with Cosmote). Anyone who has answers on this?

2nd solution: Buy myself a proper VoIP phone, and hook up the landline directly to that, in this way bypassing the need fot the technicolor. That would be my favourite solution since it would mean I can dispose of the Technicolor completely. However, this would mean I need to get the SIP account details, which I have understood ISP providers are not eager to hand out to customers. So has anyone had any experience (positive or negative) with getting the SIP account details off Wind? Also, are there any technical hurdles I am overlooking with this solution?

Also, from the way I wrote this, you probably also understood than I am far from a specialist on these things... so apologies if I am making you go into "noob mode"...

    Many thanks in advance!

    Welcome to Greece.

    In short:

option #1 would work if technicolor could turn to bridge mode.
As far as I know it doesn't, so no-go.

option #2 would work if the isp was willing to give you the sip credentials.
To my knowledge, only cosmote/ote does so, so again no-go.

If you wanted to use your own equipment you better had stay with cosmote.

    Thanks for the reply.

Actually, Cosmote was a no-go on both solutions as well Called them up several times for a solution, and the reply was constantly "not possible", so staying with Cosmote was not an option. When I then got in touch with Wind, they told me there were options to use my own equipment. Am expecting a call from their 2nd level technical team, let's see how that goes...

Cosmote does provide the sip credentials on request.
Been there, done that, multiple times.
You will have to send an e-mail requesting the sip credentials because the kids on phone support usually have no idea,
    but it is doable.
Check the relevant forum threads for using own routers in bridge/pppoe mode with cosmote.
With older firmware releases the speedports were able for bridge mode (offc. no voip on bridged cpe),
the pppoe passthrough mode remains possible today but you will have to permanently disable the voip functions on cpe.
    There are some side-hurdles though:
If the cpe is left connected (or somehow connects even for a short time) it requests and is being auto-provisioned
fresh sip credentials via tr 069 on every restart (and/or when sip registration fails),
so if you don't disable the sip/pbx functions beforehand (or, if/when support will enable/reset it remotely)
it requests/gets new credentials, it will register itself with telephony
(and all/any devices behind it will fail registering cause they will not have the newly-issued credentials).
    So, you either:
    a) use your own modem and keep speedport always offline, or
    b) you intent to use speedport as a modem,
in which case you will also have to ask from support to also release your cpe from auto-provisioning,
to not have issues later (you will have to update cpe firmware manually down the road).

In short, don't have a speedport with auto provisioning connected when requesting for the sip credentials.
Speedport will ask for fresh ones, and by doing that will invalidate the ones given to you.

If doing ppoe-passthrough through speedport you will also have to use the generic credentials on speedport wan,
and the subscriber's credentials on the router initiating the pppoe tunnel behind speedport.
That's another reason to request the cpe be released from auto-provisioning,
because if left with auto-provisioning enabled it will use the subscriber's credentials on its own wan connection,
and the router behind it will not be able to establish a pppoe connection through speedport.

    There are many options.

Also, cosmote service supports auto-provisioning on any/all fritzboxes with fritzos > 7.xx.
Another nice option if you are not really technically oriented.

To my knowledge, all other isp don't provide the sip credentials, so the cpe has to be installed for the voip to operate.
There are options to place a second router behind the provider's cpe,
but involve double-natting so are suboptimal.

you can dreate a DMZ on technicolor and connect your own router,
I have done it connecting a synology RT2600ac on Technicolor tg789vac without loosing voip and without double NAT problems.
