    Κάτι μαγειρέματα με το MSS στο tcp έχω διαβάσει οτι τα κάνει.
    Αθώο το ταπεινό 5530 κύριε πρόεδρε !

    Τα 10 δευτερόλεπτα που τρέχει by default το iperf3 αν δεν του ορίσεις εσύ κάποιο χρόνο (πχ -t 60) δεν φτάνουν για να πάρει μπρός το tcp window scaling. Αναμένω κράξιμο απο τον netblues και δίκιο θα έχει

    Επίσης δεν ξέρω γιατί αλλά σε όλα τα iperf3 test που κάνω, πάντα στην αρχή μου βγάζει εκατοντάδες ή χιλιάδες retransmissions. μετά μηδενίζουν.
    Αυτό επηρεάζει τον αλγόριθμο του scaling οπότε το tcp ξεκινάει με ένα πολύ συντηρητικό παράθυρο και τα τελικά στατιστικά βγαίνουν off.
    Χρήσιμη σε αυτή την περίπτωση η παράμετρος --omit N για το iperf3 ώστε να μην λάβει υπόψη του τα πρώτα N δευτερόλεπτα.

    Χμμ, OK αλλά μπορούμε και καλύτερα.
    Ας αυξήσουμε τους buffers. Οι default τιμές στο debian είναι μικρές για high-performance networking over long fat networks (τρομάρα μας )

    Στα net.core.{r,w}mem_max που είναι η μέγιστη μνήμη που μπορεί να πάρει ένα socket για buffering και αφορά όλα τα πρωτόκολλα (ip, tcp, udp, κλπ) από 208 KiB το ανεβάζω στα 32MiB:

    θα παρατηρήσετε οτι αλλάζω και τα receive buffers (rmem) εκτός απο τα send (wmem) τα οποία στην περίπτωση μας δεν έχουν σχέση καθώς κάνουμε send test.
    Δεν έχουν και τόσο σχέση και πιθανόν δεν θα επηρεάσουν σε τίποτα το τεστ μας αλλα για να μην γίνει πολύ περίπλοκο το τεστ, τα ανεβάζω και αυτά. Τζάμπα είναι, μνήμη δεν έχουμε?
    Σε παραγωγικά περιβάλλοντα αυτά θα πρέπει να είναι ρυθμισμένα σωστά και οχι με τις εξωφρενικά υψηλές τιμές που βάζω για το τεστ.

    τα περισσότερα μοντέρνα Linux έχουν ήδη ανοιχτά τα περισσότερα options. Must-read για όποιον θέλει να ζεί στα άκρα

    Oav σήμερα πρόσεξα οτι το ubuntu απο το οποίο κάνεις το τεστ τρέχει σε container κάτω από proxmox.

    Mπορείς να δείς στου proxmox host τις τιμές? ειδικά το net.core.wmem_max όπως επίσης και το /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_congestion_control που δείχνει τον επιλεγμένο tcp congestion control algorithm.
    Έχω παρατηρήσει οτι με htcp αντί για cubic πετάει το άλογο - πιάνω τα 524 σε 10"

    Μου κάνει τρομερή εντύπωση όμως πόσο γρήγορα ανεβάζει τα γκάζια σε σένα. Φτάνεις τα 524 στο πρώτο δευτερόλεπτο!

    Πολύ πιθανόν το proxmox να είναι ήδη ρυθμισμένο για high-prerformance.

    Επίσης φαντάζομαι το τερατάκι που έχεις εκεί δεν συγκρίνεται με το ταπεινό shuttle dh410 μου. Και αυτό θα παίζει τον ρόλο του.

    Συγνώμη απο τους υπόλοιπους που δεν έχουν Linux και δεν τους αφορά άμεσα όλα αυτά

    Τεσπα, ας κρατήσουμε οτι single tcp throughput πολλών Mbit/s με host που είναι 20-30-40-50 ms μακριά θέλει tuning για να παίξει καλά.
    Και πάντα έχει τα θέματα του. Ενας παίκτης στη διαδρομή (router/switch) να κάνει για λίγο κιχ (queing) και μας το διέλυσε το tcp window και το νούμερο και το τεστ ολο.
    Και οτι το fritz δεν είναι ο ένοχος

    Mπορείς να δείς στου proxmox host τις τιμές? ειδικά το net.core.wmem_max όπως επίσης και το /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_congestion_control που δείχνει τον επιλεγμένο tcp congestion control algorithm.

    Όσοι έχετε fritzbox 7590 και έχετε πρόβλημα.Η λύση είναι factory reset.Το έκανα με τεχνικό της Cosmote σήμερα και το πρόβλημα λύθηκε.Σε γραμμή 500Mbps το upload ανέβηκε στα 257Mbps.

    Δεν νομίζω ότι χρειάζεται factory reset. Εγώ που είχα κάνει την πατάτα και είχα βάλει manual DSL 300/150 (ναι, παίζει και για το WAN, λίγο άστοχο αυτό από την AVM) μόλις έβγαλα το manual:

    Όλα τα παραπάνω αφορούν το send (upload) και μόνο.

    Στο reverse (-R) εύκολα τερματίζει στα 937 Mbits/sec (με κόβει η 1Gbit NIC του shuttle).
    Μετά το tuning πιάνω 937 sustained me bbr, htcp, cubic.

    Αν όμως δεν κάνω tuning και αφήσω τα default boot settings η ταχύτητα πέφτει δραματικά από τα ~937 στα ~490 !
    Ο tcp congestion control algorithm δεν έχει σημασία. Και οι 3 μου δίνουν 480-490 to poly.

    To tuning στα buffers είναι που κάνουν την διαφορά

    Και κάτι για τα Windows:

    Σε windows η MS χρησιμοποιούσε σε XP/Vista/7 το λεγόμενο Compound TCP (CTCP). Ένας δικός της συνδιασμός tcp reno και tcp vegas αν κατάλαβα καλά.

    Πλέον σε windows 10/11 χρησιμοποιεί cubic. Το new reno είναι επίσης διαθέσιμο.

    Δεν θα πω πως το εμαθα αλλα η Vodafone θεωρει πως απαξ και απο το OLT φευγει η ονομαστικη ταχυτητα upload το τι θα παρει ο συνδρομητης λογω pppoe overhead της ειναι παντελως αδιαφορο.
    Δεν ειναι για τα χ Mbps που λειπουν αλλα με ενοχλει η λαμογια τους και το κατηγγειλα στον ιντερνετ παροχο μου Cosmote.
    Ο καθενας ασ πραξει οπως νομιζει...
