Εντόπισα το πρώτο κρούσμα γραφειοκρατίας στο Gentoo bugzilla.

Ο Apache 2.4 έρχεται με ένα νέο module, το mod_proxy_fcgi. Για να γίνει build στο gentoo, χρειάζονται ακριβώς 2 γραμμές στο ebuild του apache, όπως όλα τα built in modules του Apache.

Κάνουμε bug reports στο bugzilla και οι devs βλέπουν ένα παλιό πακέτο για τον apache 2.2 που ονομάζεται mod_proxy_fcgi (τότε ήταν ξεχωριστό πακέτο) και κάνουν rename τα reports σε bump requests για άσχετο πακέτο και στην συνέχεια λάθος assignments (τύπου maintainter needed, orphaned package) με αποτέλεσμα ένα bug που είναι δουλειά 3 δευτερολέπτων (δείτε τι αλλαγές χρειάζεται το ebuild του apache, trivial: https://421135.bugs.gentoo.org/attachment.cgi?id=315323) εδώ και 6 μήνες να μην μπορεί να διορθωθεί!

Επαγγελματική βοήθεια!

Το μόνο που χρειάζεται είναι να περαστεί αυτό το patch (reported εδώ και εδώ) στο ebuild του www-servers/apache-2.4.3. Προσθέτει ένα use flag και το κατάλληλο build switch.

Το έχουμε δοκιμάσει τουλάχιστον 3 άτομα και λειτουργεί (με αυτό τρέχει ο server μου). Άλλωστε θα παρατηρήσεις πως δεν αλλάζει κάποιο κρίσιμο σημείο του ebuild.

YΓ. Μπορώ να κάνω και attach ολόκληρο το ebuild αν χρειάζεται.

Ναι και για την τιμή του, τα σπάει προς το παρόν! Καλύτερο από το Linode μου. Δεν ξέρω βέβαια αν οφείλεται μόνο στην παραπάνω RAM, αλλά έχω την εντύπωση πως γενικότερα είναι λιγότερο loaded το μηχάνημα και πιο γρήγορο το δίκτυο τους προς Ελλάδα. Επίσης έχουν πιο γρήγορο I/O. Με ένα πρόχειρο dd είναι 3 φορές πιο γρήγορο από το Linode. Επιτέλους έχω μόνιμα ανοιχτό το gitlab, έστησα και ένα gollum και φυσικά LAMP όπου πετάει με το Gentoo από πίσω.

Κάνουν μόνο rate limit στον αριθμό των συνδέσεων (υπολογίζω 12-15 συνδέσεις/sec) αλλά δεν κοίταξα αν είναι ανά ip ή γενικά. Από προβληματάκια, δεν δούλευε αρχικά το IPv6 και το reverse DNS αλλά τα έλυσε γρήγορα το support τους. Μια φορά μου έκαναν reboot λόγω τεχνικού προβλήματος στον server. Το VNC console τους δεν μου αρέσει γιατί δεν δουλεύουν οι περισσότεροι χαρακτήρες (όπως η τελεία και το slash). Το rescue system τους όμως είναι sysrsccd, οπότε το ξεκινάς, τρέχεις ένα passwd και κατευθείαν ssh.

Το μόνο παράπονό μου σε σχέση με Linode, είναι που δεν προσφέρουν DNS servers. Ο DNS manager του linode είναι πολύ βολικός. Τώρα αναγκαστικά tinydns (djbdns).

Γενικά, αν παραμείνει τόσο γρήγορο, θα είναι τέλεια! Ευχαριστώ!

Αυτό με τη vnc κονσόλα, είναι γνωστό θέμα, τους το έχω αναφέρει κι εγώ. Η βλακεία είναι ότι σε αυτή την κονσόλα, έχει από default γερμανικό keyboard layout, οπότε από εκεί γίνεται η όλη βλακεία.

Χαίρομαι που τελικά αποδεικνύεται καλή λύση.

Αυτό το ρημάδι το gtkglext δεν γίνεται compile με τίποτα, εδώ και μέρες! Μπορεί κανείς να βοηθήσει;

Το τσέκαρα ήδη το πακέτο. Το έχω:
