Βridgestone to quit F1 after 2010 season

F1's sole supplier of tyres on Monday announced its decision to pull out of the sport after the 2010 season.

2010 marks the third year of Bridgestone's exclusive supply contract with formula one, and a media statement said the Bridgestone Corporation in Japan decided not to seek an extension.

A disappointed Hiroshi Yasukawa, boss of the company's motor racing programme, said the decision was about the redirection of "resources towards the further intensive development of innovative technologies and strategic products".


Bridgestone entered F1 in 1997 in competition with Goodyear, and later pitted its products against Michelin's.

It was the only supplier in 2007, then entering a contract to be the sole official supplier between 2008-2010.

Αντε να περασει και αυτο το νημα να ανοιξει η ψηφοφορια για το 2010.

Σιγουρα πολλοι δε γουσταρουν τον Alonso, αλλα οσο και να εχει, ο συνδιασμος του Ισπανου στο τιμονι μιας Ferrari, ολο και θα τσιμπησει καμποσες ψηφους.

Χμ... δεν νομίζω να έρθει η Michelin , έχει δηλώσει ότι την ενδιαφέρει ο ανταγωνισμός στην F1, αρα για sole provider απλά δεν το βλέπω.

Είχα διαβάσει πρόσφατα σε ένα άρθρο στο Quattroruote ότι προς το παρόν στην Pirelli δεν ενδιαφέρονται για αυτήν την μορφή των αγώνων..

Williams has confirmed that Rubens Barrichello will join the team for the 2010 season alongside Nico Hulkenberg who is promoted from his role as test and reserve driver. The team has already confirmed a switch from Toyota to Cosworth engines for next year.

Despite his success with Brawn this year, the impending acquisition of a stake in the team by Mercedes-Benz and the expected arrival of 2009 Williams driver Nico Rosberg, forced Barrichello to look elsewhere.

"Rubens needs no introduction," said Frank Williams. "He is not only the most experienced driver in Formula One, but a passionate and talented driver who fought hard for the drivers' championship this year.�

Having started his Formula One career with Jordan in 1993, his new deal will see him race for the Grove-based team, extending his F1 career to an astonishing 18 seasons and over 300 starts. He has finished second in the championship with Ferrari and third this year with Brawn GP.


Hulkenberg meanwhile is the protιgι of Michael Schumacher�s manager Willi Weber and steps up to Formula One with impressive credentials having taken championship honours in Formula BMW ADAC, A1GP, F3 Euroseries and the GP2 championship.

The confirmation of the Williams line-up means that Toyota favourite Kazuki Nakajima has been dropped by the team after a disappointing second season.

"Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima remain our drivers until the end of 2009 and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their contribution to the team," Williams continued. "Nico and Kazuki have represented AT&T Williams and our partners with dedication, discipline and skill and we wish them every success with their future endeavours."

Fernando Alonso says moving to the Ferrari team is the safest option for any driver, despite the Italian squad's disappointing 2009 season.
The Maranello squad, last year's constructors' champions, finished in fourth place this year after scoring just one victory.
Ferrari stopped the development of this year's car early in order to focus on 2010, when Alonso will join the Italian squad from Renault.
Despite Ferrari's poor season, however, Alonso remains confident the team will challenge for the titles again next season.
"You have to try to be optimistic by nature," Alonso told Cadena Ser radio. "I think what makes me calm is that going to Ferrari is a synonym of quietness, because you know they are giving their best.
"It's a team and a marque born for competition and so you know they are going to give it all for their car, and you know that Ferrari is usually among the first.
"Sometimes they win titles, sometimes they don't, but they never have a year that's too bad. I think going to Ferrari is the safest option for any driver.
"Out of the 20-22 drivers no one knows what things will be like next year, it's all again a big question mark and we'll see how the new cars perform.
"But I think being at Ferrari, or McLaren, or in good teams, gives you more peace of mind than at any other team because anything can happen."
The Spaniard, who also endured a difficult season in 2009, believes he and Felipe Massa will form a strong partnership next year.
"All I heard from the team is that he is completely recovered and that he will be my team-mate. I think together we can have a very strong team," the Spaniard added.
"Massa has shown he is a very fast driver, that he has grown up a lot in the two or three years and I think we can challenge the strongest teams like McLaren or Red Bull."

Ρισκο? Αλλα και που να παει,να επελεγε cosworth ας πουμε? Η red bull αν επαιρνε mercedes θα ειχε ελπιδες να εμφανιστει αρκετα ανταγωνιστικη για του χρονου αν υποθεσουμε οτι η κυριαρχια στους κινητηρες θα συνεχιστει απο την mercedes,αλλα εθεσε βετο η mclaren.

Κάτι έχει πάει στραβά με τη Ρενώ. Από τότε που αγόρασε τη Μπένετον, και άρχισε πάλι να χρησιμοποιεί το όνομα Ρενώ, η πορεία της ήταν συνεχώς ανοδική, με αποκορύφωμα τα 4 πρωταθλήματα το 2005 και 2006. Απο την αποχώρηση της Michelin και μετά έχασε το δρόμο της. Αυτό που έγινε με τις μηχανές της το 2008 ήταν απαράδεκτο. Δε μπορεί να βγαίνει ο Μπριατόρε και να λέει "εφαρμόσαμε το engine freeze σύμφωνα με το γράμμα του νόμου" όταν όλοι οι άλλοι κάνανε το ακριβώς αντίθετο. Αυτό δηλώνει κακό management, και απ' αυτή την άποψη είναι καλό που έφυγε απ' την ομάδα.

The newspaper reported: "Toyota Motor Corp., the world's largest car company with the biggest presence in motorsport has decided to withdraw from Formula One and not participate in 2010."

President Akio Toyoda will formally open a four-day meeting of the board tomorrow. It is believed from several sources of the newspaper that a decision is already set about the Formula One team operations.

Toyota is already racing in Formula One since 2002 and entered after a full year of preparation and testing, only to find itself in a struggle for points. The initial was back then to at least run until the end of 2012 but the recent economic downturn makes this expense difficult. Toyota is expected to have 2 consecutive years of financial losses.

Along with Honda's pull out last year, Toyota would leave a Japanese void in Formula One.

The newspaper also reports that several alternatives are being investigated to protect the employment of the member of the team. It is thought that a transfer or a continued cooperation with Formula One of some sort is being looked into.
